I read extremely widely across the fantasy and romance genres, even outside of my work as an editor. (My TBR stack is honestly shocking.) My copyediting background also encompasses nonfiction (memoirs, websites, press releases.) For solely proofreading orders, I accept all stories. For developmental reads, it does need to be in the fantasy/romance/light sci-fi area. I read ALL pairings and ALL triggers — unless the dog dies. That happens to be my personal line in the sand. ♥ Otherwise, I’m very comfortable with LGBTQ+ pairings, poly pairings, kink, violence, all levels of spice, and other nontraditional romance structures. I am always looking to read more D/s-flavoured stories, as well as same-sex pairings.

Yes — I offer 1500-word free samples. These are not going to offer much in the way of developmental observations, since 1500 words won’t tell me anything big about your characters or pacing, but it allows you to see my process and see if I might be the right editor for you. Due to needing time for my existing clients, I do not offer larger samples.

Look, you can’t shock me. I was a romance reader long before I was a romance editor. I promise that you won’t be judged; I look at spice as a commercial aspect to your story, and I’m happy to offer my genuine opinion on it, just as I’ll offer it about characters, plot, etc. This goes for violence as well. Bring on that dark romance!

I do not and will not use AI editing programs, (a) because they are unethical, and (b) because they are wrong FAR more often than they’re right. When you work with me, you’re getting my human instincts about your story after reading literally thousands of books in the genre, which is something AI can’t offer.

I am, in fact, a transplant: born Scottish, educated between England and the US, and I currently edit in both markets. (I also have a small but mighty faction of Australian clients!) In short, I will ask you which market your book is intended for when I set up your edit, as I am very comfortable editing for either.
Please note: my personal correspondence tends to be in UK standard ♥

When my calendar allows it, absolutely. I do charge a rush fee; please mention this in your inquiry if you are interested so I may quote you accordingly.

I do this on purpose, and no, it’s not my qualifications. Continued education and familiarity with the style guides are extremely important to me!
I believe that every genre would be improved by offering more variety: in characters, in viewpoints, in representation. The only way to do that is to encourage more authors to write books!
But like it or not, publishing can be very gatekept. I aim to find a middle ground that allows me to work AND champion new authors, making the entry point for the industry as viable as I can. My rates will always be a continuation of my commitment to that.
